ABAP demands a crackdown against Fake Babas

The Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad ,(ABAP) the apex body of Hindu Sadhus has released a list of fake sadhus who have destroyed the image of Sadhus. This list has included 14 fake sadhus. This has come after the recent controversies surrounding self-styled godmen.
Releasing the list, Swami Narendra Giri, the president of the ABAP said: “we appeal to the common people to beware of such con artists who have no tradition and some time they bring shame to entire community by their controversial acts”.
Following is the list released by ABAP:
A 76 old Asaram is in jail since 2013 after being accused of rape by a teenage devotee at a religious event. Later another devotee accused him of rape. While he is in jail, he has thousands of followers who come to the court whenever he appears for his case hearing.
Radhe Maa (Sukhvinder Kaur)
A native of Punjab, Sukhvinder Kaur later changed her name to Radhe Maa, who lives in Mumbai, regularly hosts religious events at her Mumbai’s residence. Recently Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a notice to a police official for failing to act on a complaint against Radhe Maa. She was accused of hurting religious sentiments.
Gurmeet Singh (Ram Raheem)
The Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Singh, known as the Guru of bling for wearing ostentatious jewellery in his self produced films, was recently sentenced to 20 years jail after being convicted by a CBI special court for raping two female followers. Following his conviction thousands of his followers went on the rampage attacking public properties in Haryana and Punjab.
Swami Omji (Vinodanand Jha)
Also known as Om ji, in 2008 a case of theft was registered against him by his younger brother Vinod Jha, who accused him and other three of breaking the locks of his bicycle shop and stealing 11 bicycles, and other expensive things including sale deed of the house and important documents.
Omji is also facing the charges under Arm Act, Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act in other matters.
Nirmal Baba (Nirmaljeet Singh)
Nirmaljeet Singh, also known as Nirmal Baba has been controversial for donation and admission fee of 2000 for his Darbar Session. He has appeared on TV as part of his show “third eye of Nirmal Baba”. He has a huge following despite being a polarising figure.
He was recently acquitted in the 2007 Ajmer blast case. A right wing activist Swami Assemanand along with six others acquitted on ground of benefit of doubts.
The son of Asaram, Narayan Sai, 40, is in jail for raping a woman from Surat, who was a disciple of his father. She was allegedly raped when she was living at Asaram’ ashram. Later he was also accused of having physical relationship with other eight girls.
Another self-style godman Rampal belongs to Haryana’s Hisar District. He has charges against him including inciting mob, conspiracy of murder and contempt of court. In 2014, police found five bodies inside his ashram. The police was seeking his arrest after he refused to court orders.
Sachchidanand Giri (Sachin Datta)
Many called him “builder baba” declared a proclaimed offender in a case registered with the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police and was arrested by police from his Lucknow’s residence.
Ichchadhari Bhimanand (Shivmurti Dwivedi)
He was alleged for running a sex racket and also arrested in 2010. He was also booked under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MACOCA).
A case of fraud has also been registered against him at Noida.
Others in the list are Acharya Kushmuni, Brahaspati Giri, Om Namah Shivay Baba and Malkhan Singh.
