Gujarat Congress reached out to Hardik Patel, AlpeshThakore and Jignesh Mewani who could bring a crucial support ahead of the assembly elections which are scheduled to be held in next month.
Speaking to the media, Gujarat Congress president Bharatsingh Solanki said: “If Hardik Patel wants to contest elections in future, the Congress is ready to give him ticket. Jignesh Mewani, who has been a vocal voice for the rights of Dalits and Alpesh Thakore, who is fighting issues like corruption and alcohol addiction, The Congress invites them to join hands with us.”
However, Hardik Patel who has been at the forefront of an agitation for reservation in college admission and government jobs for his politically influential patidar community is yet to reach the age in which he could contest the election.
“I don’t want to contest the elections. We want our right and we will continue to fight for the same,” said Patel
Though Patel had already declared his intention to not contest the election, Jignesh Mewani who has been the face of agitating Dalit community in the wake of Una incident told a newspaper that though his movement has political perspective but he would respond to the Congress invitation after consulting the community and organization.
Another activist Kalpesh Thakore, who has been leading OBC and ST Ekta Manch, is yet to comment on Congress invitation.
It seems that the Congress does not want any stone unturned to galvanize maximum support of all communities ahead of assembly elections in Gujarat. Though the dates for the elections are yet to be announced but Congress is already in campaign. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had visited Gujarat twice for his Navsarjan Yatra earlier this month.
